Castle of Memory
The exhibition "Memorie Castle" resulted from "Memories Box" project launched by the Castles and Town Walls of Mondego Network in April 2012 to fifteen institutions, public or private, targeted to host, monitor and / or occupation of the elderly in our area of intervention (municipalities of Coimbra, Figueira da Foz, Lousã, Miranda do Corvo Montemor-o-Velho, Penela, Pombal and Soure).
Among the institutions were: Associação Nacional de Apoio ao Idoso - Coimbra | Ateneu de Coimbra | Universidade Sénior da Figueira da Foz | Santa Casa da Misericórdia da Lousã | Associação Recreativa Cultural e Social das Gândaras | Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Penela | Casa de Beneficência Luís Oliveira Guimarães | Santa Casa da Misericórdia do Louriçal | Centro Social e Paroquial MariStella da Guia | ADFP - Associação para o Desenvolvimento e Formação Profissional de Miranda do Corvo | Lar Dr. Clemente Carvalho | Santa Casa de Misericórdia de Montemor-o-Velho | Casa do Povo de Abrunheira | Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Soure e Centro Social de Alfarelos.
"The Memories Box" project sought to develop, with the older community, an initiative to raise awareness of the existence of the medieval heritage, its historical and regional importance. Simultaneously, our intention was to value people and their memories, creating from these significant assets that could inspire different platforms to promote Network.
At each institution the Agency delivered an empty box of paper receipts, which was decorated and where they stored all the memories during the year 2012. There was a guardian that keep the box and the boxes were gaining life, feeding on memories, tongue-twisters, prayers, traditional games, litanies, songs, riddles …
From the cauldron of stories and memories that we have received, have devised an exhibition where the visitor is invited into the sun door of a castle made for them. The towers that support it are solid, witnessing the presence of the driving force behind this adventure: our guardians of memory.
The boxes, now decorated, are our pride. We suggest that people have fun in the recreation yard, find the saying that today fills your soul, let yourself be enchanted by stories of life that we helped tell, exercise the mind with the riddles of our tree, remember Granny's Kitchen, contemplate our altar of prayers and litanies, learn benzelhices that will help you in times of greatest need.
The exhibition opened on June 28, 2013, in the municipality of Pombal and is currently roaming the Network municipalities.
Between November 15 and December 15, 2013 was in the Church of Santa Maria de Alcáçova (castle of Montemor-o-Velho).
The exposure passed by Municipal Library of Soure between December 20, 2013 and February 28, 2014
Between June 11, 2014 and July 31, 2014 the exhibition was in the Municipal Library of Penela.
Between August 4, 2014 and September 30, 2014 the exhibition will be on Ecomuseu Serra da Lousã - Ethnographic Museum Dr. Louzã Henriques.
Come, lets make the Reconquest together!
Rei e Rainha do Mondego
Looking to create, undertake and make happen the reconquest of a story that belongs to us all, the network launched in November 2012, a school competition in educational facilities in the eight counties of our territory (Coimbra, Lousã, Figueira da Foz, Miranda do Corvo Montemor-o-Velho, Penela, Pombal and Soure).
The challenge "Rei e Rainha do Mondego”, oriented to the 1st and 2nd education level, aimed the construction of two 3D elements that represent the royal couple of the Castles and Town Walls of Mondego. Creativity reigned and the school community has proven joint work and commitment to this great challenge. The contest had 12 royal couples, 4 of the 1st level and 8 of the 2nd level, that between April 18 and September 18 were in a traveling exhibition toured the eight municipalities of the Network. This exhibition served as a pretext to invite the community to vote for the best Royal Couple.
Ended the traveling exhibition "Rei e Rainha do Mondego" and after more than 1000 visitors express their vote, the Network has announced the winners of these two contests on October 7, 2013, National Day of Castles in the Monastery of Santa Clara -a-Velha in Coimbra.
On that day we built another chapter in our joint history. The event had the participation of all educational institutions, teachers and students involved in the project.
